HOLIDAYS IN THE HAMLET

SCIG joins in the holiday spirit by choosing a community tree and erecting it in the center of the Hamlet. Decortated and strung with lights; the tree is officially lit on the night of the Holidays in the Hamlet event. A small bonfire is also lit for those attending to stay warm on what is sure to be a brisk evening. This event offers children in the area to visit with and take free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Fun activities and creative crafts are available for children to enjoy as well. Members of SCIG also take pride in lighting luminary candles throughout the Hamlet giving the streets a warm feeling of community and respect.

LUCKY DAY AUCTION

This event started as simply our version of a "quarter auction" or raffle to raise funds for the Group. After years of shelving the event, we've given it a new name and fresh approach to offering the community an opportunity to partake in a fund-raising event to support Sidney Center and all it's unique character.

The Auction features various unique items and themes baskets ranging from artisitc necessity. In the spirit of spring the atmosphere of the auction is welcoming and enjoyable for all ages. Support from individuals making themed baskets and items donated from locals businesses and volunteers to organize the event, this truly is a collective community effort.

In turn, SCIG is using the funds to help promote the Sidney Center Library to the community, to support the Maywood Historical Train Depot, and funds for improvement projects within the Hamlet of Sidney Center.

MAYWOOD STATION STORIES

The summer of 2014 marked the first joint effort between the Maywood Historical Group and Sidney Center Improvement Group to pool their resources and put on an event for the community.

With years of experience between the Groups planning events and the same creative spirit; the first event offered a look back at Sidney Center history. A retrospective of the Maywood Station stop on the O&W Railraod was shown, along with original 16mm film of the great trestle which once towered over the Hamlet. The event also gave guests a surprise montage tribute to the famed Rural Rhythm Show which was produced locally and performed at the former Sidney Center School.

It is the intention of both Groups to continue having similar events with themes pertaining to local history, art and entertainment. Please check back for more information about future events.
